Coldharbour and Hansun (Shanghai) Marine Technology ink Agency and Distribution Agreement

23 May, 2017 – Coldharbour Marine, developer of a unique in-tank, in-voyage and inert gas-based ballast water treatment system for large tankers, bulkers and LNG vessels, has signed an agreement with Hansun (Shanghai) Marine Technology Co Ltd covering the marketing and distribution of Coldharbour products in mainland China. The contract, finalised at a recent ceremony in Shanghai, is part of the companies’ joint preparations for the IMO’s Ballast Water Convention which enters into force on September 8 this year.

The wide-ranging agreement brings a number of Coldharbour’s product lines, including its unique inert gas generation systems and award winning in-tank ballast water treatment technologies into Hansun’s already impressive portfolio of in-house marine technology products.

Hansun Chairman, Simon Gu said: “Our existing products are already well-known for their reliability and operational advantages for ship owners. Adding the Coldharbour’s Inert Gas, Flue Gas, BWTS and Domestic Water Module product lines means that we now have a comprehensive catalogue of products for our customers, from incinerators to the latest IGG units, from ultra-violet ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) for small and medium sized ships, to the Coldharbour GLD inert gas-based in-tank BWTS for the largest vessels. We believe that this places Hansun in a unique position to supply the needs of our Chinese customers”.

The agreement is the first step in a plan that will eventually see Hansun manufacture Coldharbour units at its facilities in Qi Dong, with Coldharbour in turn offering Hansun products to its customers outside China.

Coldharbour CEO, Andrew Marshall said: “Hansun is a highly respected marine equipment manufacturer and we are delighted to be able to work with them. The Chinese market is vital to Coldharbour, and our Chinese customers are increasingly demanding the kind of high quality, high technology solutions that both we and Hansun produce.”

Training of the Hansun sales engineers and project engineers has already begun and Hansun is confidently predicting that its first sales of Coldharbour equipment will begin this year, based on the enthusiastic response it has received from the customers it approached in anticipation of the agreement.

As Simon Gu said “The right products, for the right markets, at the right time and at the right price are the foundation of our continued success. We look forward to a bright future with our new partners at Coldharbour and to bringing these world-beating technologies to our customers.”

About Coldharbour Marine Ltd

Coldharbour Marine Limited is a UK-based design, engineering business with nearly four decades of inert gas and water treatment experience. The company has a long history in the inert gas generation sector, and has in recent years developed Sea Guardian™ – a clean, green, compact “third generation” technology for use in LNG carriers and large tankers.

Sea GuardianTM inert gas generators incorporate a range of patented features that ensure stable, reliable, low maintenance operation and they are also integral to Coldharbour’s award winning GLDTM ballast water treatment system.

Key features of the GLD™ system are that treatment takes place in-tank and in-voyage and without the need for any form of in line filtration. This approach ensures no disruption to terminal operations during ballasting and no risk of re-growth of marine organisms on long ballast voyages. With the GLD™ system large vessels are now guaranteed to arrive at terminals ready to load or off-load ballast without the risk of delay caused by BWTS operational difficulties.

The system is fully type-approved by IMO, with testing undertaken by both the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Lloyd’s Register. It also has US Coast Guard Alternate Management Systems acceptance and is currently undergoing the full US Coast Guard type approval process.
